This Summer Relax & Meditate

Image
Well, there's no mistaking it - Summer is here - its such a wonderful time of year. A time when we all seem to relax and enjoy our lives a little more. Maybe we hold more parties at our homes to spend quality time with friends or go to the beach to soak up the sunshine and fresh ocean air. If I had to describe this time of year in one word that word would be RESTFUL if I were pressed to put it into a sound it would be "Ahhhhhh." Imagine enjoying every Summer's day lounging by the pool sipping Margarita's or Pina Colada's yeah... like I said "Ahhhhh." Just writing this description I feel totally relaxed. Don't you? Alas, maybe we can't spend every day this Summer by the pool or at the beach - but we don't have to - meditation is another great way to unwind and relax. GUIDED MEDITATION A couple years ago I produced a meditation series and made it available free on-line. In this series I dedicate one video to a specific chakra (ener...

Feature Article: A Songbird's Journey

Image
You know that old adage: "Birds of a Feather Flock together?" I think we are all inexplicably drawn to people with whom we share common interests. Looking over the landscape of my life I know this is why most of my friends are artists. If there is one common thread between all artists it is this: in order to engage in our artistic expression (what ever that is, dance, painting, writing etc) there needs to be an openness, we need to be vulnerable and remain available to the creative process. SOCIAL BUTTERFLY  I am a self-professed (and confessed) social butterfly, I absolutely love meeting new people and usually sit on the edge of my seat, riveted by every detail of their life's journey. This is why I adore writing these monthly features, I've heard so many wonderful stories over the years. I'm grateful to have this outlet to share them with you. I hope each feature article inspires you, in some way, to pursue your dreams. IT'S ALL 'BOUT THE JOURNEY...

Feature Story: A Dancer's Life

Image
When Martha Graham said:  "Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion"  I believe she was referring to dancers like Kiki Lucas; the subject of this months "Testing The Waters" Feature Story. I  had the distinct pleasure of becoming friends and working with Kiki Lucas while she was living in Los Angeles.   She being a fellow Aries woman we hit it off instantly.   To this day I continue to feel incredibly blessed to have known and worked with her. At the time, I was performing in and producing cabaret shows and she  graciously agreed to choreograph a couple of numbers for a few of my productions.                                                                                      ...

The Holiday's are over... Now What?

Image
On every street in every neighborhood discarded Christmas tree's litter the sidewalks. Just a couple weeks before these same tree's stood in living rooms and were adorned with lights, tinsel and ornaments. Oh how the mighty have fallen! Stripped of their baubles and abandoned they now serve as harsh reminders that the holiday's are in fact over. NOW WHAT? After taking down all the decorations I looked around my home and for some reason it appeared larger in size. Why? I asked myself. I mean I knew it was the same square footage but why did it look and feel larger to me? Yes, the Christmas decorations have been taken down and the space that was once filled with Holiday adornments now seem stark and bare - which can create a more spacious feel - but I think its more than that. I think my home feels larger because it is still glowing with the Holiday Spirit. This season we entertained in our home, we hosted Thanksgiving and a couple Christmas parties as well. We ...

What will 2013 look like for you?

Image
So it's that time of year again. Another year is ending and a New Year is beginning. If you follow my blog you know that I do not subscribe to making "resolutions" --  I think they tend to set us up for disappointments and failures. So what do I do? First, I look at the current year and try to boil it down into a single theme. 2012 was an interesting ride (to say the least). We experienced extreme highs and extreme lows. It was one of those years that I am happy to see come to an end. If I had to put 2012 into a "theme" I'd say it was a "don't forget to wear your seat belt" kind of year.  My faith was tested this year and I came out the other side with a stronger connection to my spirituality, a greater understanding of who I am, and an even stronger connection to my husband. What did 2012 look like for you? Can you sum it up in a single sentence? After I sum up my year I sit down with my husband and set up a plan for the coming year. ...
